Ways To Build Back Links To Your Web Site

Back links are some of the most important things determining search engine ranking. If your site is seen as popular and it has a number of links coming in, Google or another search engine will consider your site a better resource. It's sort of like a voting system: more links equals more votes that show your site is worth the attention.

There are several ways to go about this. Building up link trades one by one can be tedious, but it's still a viable way to get your links on other sites. The next is submitting your site to both directories and other search engines. Keep in mind that the major search engines index smaller search engines as well—so the more search engine listings you have, the better ranking your site will have in an engine like Google.

However, there are a few things to avoid in these areas. The quality of the link depends on the quality of the site linking to you. If the site has no relation to your own site, it can potentially be a detriment. In addition, link farms are a cheap way to build links and can be worthless as well, if not downright harmful to your ranking. The answer: don't build links indiscriminately.

Beyond these basic techniques is the issue of content. A very effective way to build up quality links to your site is through custom content. This is considered linkbait: a way to get other sites to link to a particular white paper posted on the site. At the bottom of the article it says, "Link to this article, Digg this article, Email this article," and so on. The usefulness of high-quality content is two-fold: it is a potential linkbait and it houses content that will be indexed by search engines.

The quality of the content is very important. It is necessary to provide content that is well written, well displayed, and unique—it should be different than similar content found on hundreds of other websites. A page with a useful list of links is good starting point for bringing in links. The idea is to condense information from a wide range of sources so other people don't have to—they'll link to your content instead.

In addition to link trading, web masters now participate in content trading. You add another site owner's article, while linking to its source, and you do the same. This both adds a link partnership as well as provides an entirely new content source. The content is not as unique as your own original content, but this is still a viable way to build up incoming links.
